London Missionary Experience
14 April 2009
Eight hunnerd and fifty-five miles
into our pioneer trek. We've bin thru bad weather,
troublesome indians, rough roads
and lots of
discouragement, but we're still trekkin' along. We've
made it to Wyoming, Torrington to be exact -
8 1/2 miles in. We crossed
the Wyoming border just outside of
Henry Nebraska a couple of days ago. Bin followin'
the Platte River - great for washin' 'n some drinkin' when
we find a clear pool. Wish we had one of them there
wagons with a couple of oxen. Mom's sufferin' a little knee trouble
with all thet walkin'. Pullin' a handcart ain't so bad though,
'cept we call 'em trolleys over here and we
fill it full of groceries pert near evry
other day. Good thing there's
TESCO's and Sainsbury's along the trail.
We'll hit the seven month
mark on Thursday since we began our journey here in
London. Like I said earlier.... if'n we can make it to Salt
Lake, I think we'll make it all the way. Our map's tellin' us
that we still have a spell to go across the praries of
Wyomin'. Y'all can see the red spot where were campin'
tonight below.

A few weeks back we circled the carts in the FHC and had a
great dinner with our 'handcart company'. Mom was the head
cook and made 'Jana's Special Chikin Tortillas with homemade green
chili sauce (couldn't buy any of that stuff out here in the
wild). Some of the other ladies brought other fixin's like
fruit, homemade salsa, lettuce, chips, etc. Mom also made
frosted valentine heart and oatmeal raisin cookies. It was
mighty good....yum.
I conducted a
little fireside meeting and showed the film, "Only a Stonecutter",
the story of John Moyle. President Uchtdorf retold this story
in his October Priesthood Session talk. We talked a little
about commitment to our calling. The film is very well done
and hard to watch without becoming emotional. Not too many dry
eyes at the end.

I
been lookin' for relatives as we've moved along. And..... whut do
yuh know. I found some, diggin' thru some old
Parish records. Pret near fell of'un the cart when
they done showed up -- clear back to my 4th great
grandfather, who must of bin born around 1758. His name is Leversuch Hill. There's
a family name fer yuh. Glad I brot my 'puter along.
Set it up right thar on the trail and put them new folks
into my PAF (thet's me typin' over ther on the left).
All I gots to do now
is figger out how to get them names to you all for doin' their
temple work. There's about 10 or 12 new folks. We took a
little detur and went lookin' fer where they lived last Friday and
Saturday. Y'all can check our blog to see the results of that
great little trip.
Hope y'all enjoyed
Conference. Once again the 'puter came in handy, what with all
them cable hook-ups and stuff. Pretty great to hear a Prophet
tell us to 'Be Your Best Self' by Studying Diligently, Praying
Fervently, and Living Righteously ..... gots to work more on thet
last one. Mom's been doin' most of the preachin' for our
family. She does real good.
Well.... by Friday
we should just about be as far as Fort Laramie. Hope we can
keep the indians away 'till we're safe.
Well off to
bed. Tomorrow's another day. Jes' keep puttin' one foot
in front of the other and doin' our best and with the Lords help
we'll do it well enuf.
Mom's still workin' on gettin' to love the
computer....
We love you...... Mom and
Dad
